The City of Petaluma operates, under contract to MV Transportation, its own transit intra-city transit agency that circulates around many of the city's communities and attractions. Petaluma Transit operates from Downtown to the Premium Outlets, as well as shopping centers, medical facilities, and schools on both the east and west sides of US Highway 101 that cuts the city into two.
Petaluma Transit currently operates seven routes, with one of them, Route 11, operating as a crosstown service via E Washington Street between East and West Petaluma. In September 2012, Petaluma Transit started Sunday operations on two routes, effectively making its service available to its residents and visitors daily. And as of August 2017, Petaluma Transit has reorganized its network to serve the city's SMART train station downtown.
